Birth

I no longer perform births myself.

The birth takes place in the hospital or birth center of your choice. There, experienced professionals such as midwives and doctors are available to care for you and your baby. Most hospitals offer a variety of birthing options, such as a birthing stool, birthing tub or birthing bed. Pain relief options such as epidural or nitrous oxide may also be available.

In addition, hospitals offer the option of having your partner or another attendant support and accompany you during the birth.

Postpartum

Going home after birth is an important step for parents and baby to recover and grow in their own environment. The first few weeks after birth, also known as the postpartum period, are a critical time for the health and well-being of both mother and baby.
At-home postpartum care provides a valuable opportunity for mothers and newborns to have a safe and supportive environment where they can all recover and get to know each other.
During this time, I will accompany you with regular visits to your home and support you in any concerns you may have.
The content of such visits varies greatly, as it is very important to me to respond to your individual needs. Possible components can be:

  • Review of the physical and mental health and recovery status of mother and child.

  • Introduction to baby care (baby bath, diapering, personal hygiene)

  • Counseling and support with breastfeeding/nutrition and milk production

  • Advice and support in dealing with pain or discomfort

  • Assistance in overcoming difficulties related to the baby, such as crying, sleep problems and growth process

  • Advice on how to avoid complications in the postpartum period (regression)

During this time, there are 10-16 visits during 56 days (8 weeks) after birth, which is fully covered by health insurance.

Early childhood

The postpartum period is marked by many new experiences, challenges and questions about breastfeeding, nutrition and the general development of your baby. This is where the midwife's care phase ends, but you can enlist the support of lactation consultants and maternal-father advisors in your immediate area during this time. They are experts in the following areas:

  • They provide support and guidance around breastfeeding, from attachment techniques to solving breastfeeding problems.

  • They provide practical advice on introducing and implementing complementary feeding and promoting healthy eating for infants.

  • They inform parents about the normal development of infants and toddlers and provide suggestions for fun activities that promote this development.

  • They offer practical tips on baby care, from proper skin care to promoting a healthy sleep environment, and assist with common questions about baby care and hygiene.
